Marielle Jakobsons

Sound artist and violinist Marielle V. Jakobsons creates compositions of evocative, pulsing drones. She has published recordings on Thrill Jockey, Important Records, Digitalis, Mexican Summer, Root Strata, among others, and performs regularly to an international audience across the Americas & Europe. A classically-trained musician turned sound designer and educator by trade, she creates and collaborates extensively in the experimental arts. She has received numerous grants and distinctions such as the Dresher Ensemble Artist Residency, American Composer’s Forum Grant, NEXMAP Sounding Out California Composer’s Award, Elizabeth Mills Crawford Award, Lyman Piano Prize, among others. Most recently, she is teaching at Mills College, and is creating a new body of work incorporating photography and installation building entitled “Macro Cymatic Studies.”
